3 Tips For Traveling Light

Depending on where you are planning on going on your travels you may have to spend a good portion of your trip changing planes, trains, or walking a lot with your baggage.  Therefore, it’s in your best interest to have as little luggage as possible in order to avoid the least amount of stress.

Traveling light on your travels isn’t only less stress overall and less heavy lifting, but it will save you money on luggage fees and reduce your risk of possibly leaving something behind.  The more things that you bring with you the more chance you have of losing something as you go from place to place.

Even though you may be tempted to pack everything you need, it’s in your best interest to keep your bag’s contents to a minimum.  Here are some of the best tips for making sure you travel light.

Skip Bringing a Camera

Many people want to capture the moments of their beautiful travels with photographs that they take along the way to remember their experiences abroad.  Once upon a time, this involved packing a full-sized camera and film which could add as many as 10 to 15 pounds to your luggage.

Rather than bothering with packing a camera, why not opt for using your phone camera instead.  Rather than worrying about film or external hard drives you can simply transfer to cloud storage. With the advancement of mobile technology, some phones boast as many as 16 megapixels which was once the quality of the most professional cameras on the market.

Consider investing in a smartphone with a quality camera which can be used as your phone and for documenting your trip without having to pack a lot of things.

Minimize Shoes

One of the biggest culprits for weight in a suitcase is shoes.  Depending on the shoes, some can weigh upwards of 8 pounds adding a considerable amount of bulk to your bag.  When you start adding up the weight of multiple pairs in your bag this can quickly start to tip the scales on your baggage weight allowance.

Rather than taking up the majority of your bag with shoes that you may not even wear, plan to pack only two pairs of shoes.  Each pair for different types of weather conditions.  Opt for pairs which would be appropriate for a wide variety of events from going out to dinner, or even just going for a stroll.

Buy Toiletries At Your Destination

Packing big bottles of liquids like shampoos and face washes will not only put you at risk for spills which could potentially create a big problem in your luggage, but it will also weigh your luggage down.

Additionally, if you plan on only bringing carry-on you won’t be able to bring over the permitted amount.  Rather than worrying about this extra hassle, opt to buy toiletries once you’ve reached your destination.
